Chapter
Advantages of Studying Neurons in C. elegans
C. elegans allows researchers to publish papers on the same neuron in different laboratories, and with their transparency, researchers can observe the neurons firing and activate/silence genes using optogenetics. This is a significant advantage over studying neurons in mice or humans, despite their difference in species.

Summary
C. Elegans is an ideal model organism for research as it is numbered and named each year neuron. It is transparent, allowing researchers to see neurons firing and easily activate and silence genes using optogenetics. These advantages are difficult to achieve in mammalian models such as mice and humans.
