The Energy Access That Has Enabled Growth
Average American consumes 100 times more energy than their body needs for physical metabolism, and the access and availability of oil has made it relatively easy and cheap to get thus supporting the growth of the economy. However, if oil production was to be stopped, for whatever reason, the US would still have to import oil as they consume more oil than produced.
