The Pressure of Maintaining a Large Genome
The larger the genome, the more pressure there is to maintain its quality and prevent mutation. Organisms with smaller genomes have a higher chance of picking up the right bit of DNA from the environment, while eukaryotic cells must work to prevent their larger genomes from mutating to nothing.
