The romanticizing, demonizing, and fetishizing of the Viking era Scandinavians has buried the truth of who they really were - people with a linguistic and cultural affinity who believed in similar values and deities as others in northern, western, and central Europe. Ironically, those who would eventually extinguish these ancient deities were people who once believed in them themselves not long before this time period.
