The relationship between visual window and autonomic function
Narrowing our visual window by looking at a small smartphone screen can suppress our breathing apparatus due to the control of specific neurons in the brainstem called the paraphacial nucleus. Widening our visual window through reading on larger screens or printed materials can engage physiological size and improve learning.
