Chapter
The Rise of Nazi Germany's Secret Police
The Nazi party's secret police, including the SS and the SA, briefly became illegal before Hitler's rise to power, and their need for reformation was made clear in 1932 when one of their agents was arrested for trying to gather military information. The Nazi party's control over the government allowed them to turn their inter-party secret police into the official government secret police.
