In an unmapped cave where two men were trapped due to rising water levels, a rescue mission had to be improvised as the cave was not familiar to the rescue team, who first needed to build a dam and diversion ditches to stop the water from rising before attempting a rescue.
A group of cavers worked through the night to build a six-foot wide and 10-foot deep diversion ditch, as well as a 10-foot tall and 15-foot thick dam that was 70 yards long. They were motivated to rescue their own and successfully built the near impossible within a few hours.
The rescue of John Ogden involved a committed team who went to great lengths, including sending in a phone line, to save their friend who was trapped in a deep cave.
