When encountering a black bear, it's important to know their behavior which includes huffing, clacking jaws, and making a display that means they want you out of there but not interested in hunting you, with very low chances of wanting to eat you. When moving away from the bear, it's recommended to keep the spray ready, back away slowly while facing the bear and keep your eyes on them instead of turning your back towards them.
