Admiral Yamamoto's plan to face the US Navy in a decisive battle instead of creating a defensive corridor, despite risking the loss of his two newest and most modern fleet carriers, will be one of those things that he will look back to and think may have made a difference. The idea was not welcomed by everyone, and Yamamoto had to work out deals with the liaison conference and the army to get his way.
