American Media has a history of using the tactic of Catch and Kill, whereby they obtain exclusive rights to news stories that could harm their allies and not publishing them. In the case of Harvey Weinstein, they harassed interviewees until one agreed to share a damaging story which they then passed on to Weinstein with the intention of making it worse.
