Ancient Salt Crystals Could Hold Dormant Microorganisms

Researchers studying 830 million year old salt crystals in central Australia have found evidence of microorganisms that could still be alive in a dormant state. The study, published in the journal Geology, reveals the cubes of original liquid from which the salt grew may contain preserved micro-habitats that provide a home for the bacteria.
