Andrew Wiles, a mathematician from Princeton University, solved Fermat's Last Theorem which was not originally thought to be a deep and meaningful problem. He built up a body of regular theory, gets all the way up to the end, and finally solves the theorem with the help of Richard Taylor's second proof.
