Antonio Meucci, an Italian inventor, filed a preliminary patent for the "Teletrafono" in the US five years before Alexander Graham Bell filed his patent for the telephone. Meucci's supporters argue that Bell stole the idea from Meucci, who had been working on a device that was very telephone-like years before Bell's invention.
