In a Canadian town, a basic income experiment took place with the equivalent of about nine thousand pounds given to a large number of people. Despite no obligations to work or background checks, almost nobody gave up working and there was a massive fall in depression and anxiety, which suggests that depression and anxiety have been rising due to financial insecurity.
