The concept of benchmarking algorithms in computer vision was introduced when graduate students identified images and ran benchmarks to determine which algorithms run well. Although benchmarks gain traction in other areas of technology, such as autonomous vehicles, there is still a tendency for closed development and promotion through marketing.
