The makers of a drug are in a study in which they give the medication to dogs to test if it can qualify for a double-blind or single-blind study to have a compelling reason to believe that the drug will extend the animal's lifespan. They are working with the FDA to determine how to quantify the health state of dogs and how to prove that a drug can extend their life.
