Capitol Reef National Park boasts of a unique geological feature- the water pocket fold, about 100 miles of steep wrinkles in the earth’s crust. Though home to the Fremont native culture in the 1000s, it was abandoned in the 13th century, eventually used for mining and extraction until the harsh weather conditions forced people to leave in the 1920s.
