The transfiguration is a sacrament of the second regeneration and foretaste of Christ's glorious coming, showing His glory to His disciples and preparing them for His crucifixion. Jesus' baptism proclaimed the mystery of our baptism and the transfiguration is the sacrament of our own resurrection.
