Fronto was in competition with Rusticus to become the main tutor of Marcus Aurelius as he shifted towards philosophy, teaching him rhetoric exercises such as writing speeches and phrasing effectively. Marcus later applied these skills to put paradoxical ideas into plain English for himself and others in his book "Meditations".
