Cultural Perceptions of Masculinity in Japan and China
Japan's historical emphasis on aggressive masculinity during the 1930s and early 1940s, and China's disdain for the perceived "wimpy" male stereotypes, such as vegetarian men who frequent maid cafes, are contributing factors to their current perceptions of what is ideal masculinity. This has led to China looking at other countries, such as Korea, as an example of the masculinity they would like to emulate.
