The Department of Justice has been historically unable to successfully prosecute domestic terrorism cases mostly focused on foreign terrorism groups, but it is increasingly important to pursue sedition cases against domestic extremists. This is important to maintain the integrity of the DOJ and to avoid influencing an election.
