listen on Spotify
22:52 - 27:27 (04:34)

The Walker cycle theory of violence explains how domestic violence can take different forms, including coercive control, psychological abuse, sexual assault, physical assault, and threats, and how victims like Jane can be isolated from family and friends over time. The theory was put forward by Dr. Lenore Walker, a clinical psychologist and domestic violence researcher, and was cited in the 1979 Supreme Court of Canada ruling, R. V. Lavallee.
