The Clansman was a movie based on a book by the same name that was known for having onscreen rape and was directed by D.W. Griffith in 1915. Although Griffith felt remorseful afterward and went on to make Intolerance, a three-hour silent film that touched on events of intolerance throughout history, his motivation while making this film was to earn high box office returns.
