The effects of trauma do not only occur in combat veterans; rather, it goes back to early childhood and infancy under ideal circumstances that involve empathic and loving parents who are not trying to compensate for their own deficiencies. Different societies and religions have found ways of institutionalizing ways of handling this issue.
