The ketogenic diet has been shown in studies to decrease blood glucose levels and can also affect thyroid hormone levels in a way that impairs the management of carbohydrates after returning to a normal diet. Consumption of acidic foods, such as lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, can slightly lower blood glucose levels by altering gut pH and slowing the absorption of food.
