Louisiana prison officials executed Daniel Lee Marden, 42, for the 1988 abduction, rape and killing of 9-year-old Shannon Michelle Melendi of south Florida. Despite last-minute appeals, Marden was given lethal injection at a Louisiana state penitentiary, saying, "I love my family, stay strong."
