An independent autopsy has revealed that gunshot wounds and suicide have been excluded as causes of Tucker Hipps' death, leading to a criminal investigation by SLED and a closer look at Stevens Electronics. The autopsy was necessary due to conflicting conclusions amongst law enforcement agencies and Sandy Smith's uncertainty about her son's death.
