Formal Linguistic Training and Intuitions Compared
The engagement with experience of formally trained linguists has a systematic and conformant approach, different from the intuitive approach of an ordinary person that does not engage with formal systems in the same way, according to a study by Lila Gleitman. While the intuitions of linguists regarding the meaning of a phrase were different from those of non-formally trained thinkers, the latter relied to a greater extent on their subjective experience of the world.
