In Afghanistan, the Department of Defense (DoD) is responsible for gathering and layering intelligence from various sources such human for human intelligence, SIGINT, and geo-int to get a clear picture of where the target is. However, once the DoD loses control of the battle space, they must rely on other U.S. government agencies for intelligence gathering in neighboring Pakistan.
