Scientists are able to understand how black holes store information on a holographic plate using a theory regarding subtle imprints that black holes leave on their horizon. This theory, proposed by physicist John Wheeler, suggests that it is impossible, according to Einstein's theory, to know the difference between objects thrown into a black hole.
