The hypothalamus releases GnRH which causes the release of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone from the pituitary gland. This, in turn, triggers the release of testosterone from the testicles, which generates a chemical milieu that allows for the maturation of spermatocytes into healthy sperm that eventually make it into the ejaculate for fertilization to occur.
