Forensic investigators used chunks of concrete scattered across the valley to piece together the collapse of the St. Francis Dam that held 12.4 billion gallons of water. The collapse was attributed to the water seeping underneath the dam and causing uplift, which decreased its weight and effectiveness at holding back water.
