The equation E=mc² may not be the most beautiful equation in mathematics, as it involves a lot of the most hideous aspects of our notation, including the use of pi instead of tau, calling imaginary numbers "imaginary," and the letter "i" itself. It's not mind-blowing, but it does tie together when the notation is washed away.
