The ratios of isotopes for a given element are the result of stellar processes, but industrial processes can also create certain ratios of isotopes. It's difficult to determine whether it's the result of an industrial process or made that way for a particular purpose, but embedding certain ratios of isotopes can prevent counterfeiting.
