Karen Carroll, a patrol officer in a mostly rural town in southern New Hampshire, was caught between her roles as a police officer and a mother in the aftermath of a murder. Her son, Jason, was the oldest of four kids, and her husband, Jack Carroll, was a Vietnam vet in the National Guard.
