In a transcript of a recording obtained by East Idaho News, Lori Vallow is heard saying that she believed in "justifiable homicide" as an option to stop her third husband, Joseph Ryan, from coming after her and her children. Police reports also confirmed that Lori and her brother, Alex Cox, had threatened to kill Joseph in 2007.
