Michael Griffin, former chief technical officer and general manager of the Space System Group at Orbital Sciences Corporation, worked for SpaceX as a space thinker in chief with extensive knowledge of the realities of getting things into space. He attended a meeting with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and others, where he expressed his disappointment in NASA's lack of interest in investigating Mars despite its mission.
