It is difficult to incorporate placebo controls in psychedelic studies, especially when dealing with larger doses of psilocybin or LSD, and there may be a need for lightly active placebos when conducting clinical trials. The high ceilings for lethal doses of these compounds in comparison to acetaminophen suggest that the punishment for drug-related offenses might be too harsh.
