A new FDA approved approach involves placing a wire into an area of the brain which stimulates a particular brain area to offset activity patterns that lead to binge eating. Researchers have found specific patterns of brain activity in the prefrontal cortex and the nucleus accumbens, which can be targeted with the treatment.
