The quantum field theory of the electromagnetic force was developed in the 1940s and 1950s by prominent physicists, including Feynman and Schwinger. The strong force between quarks leads to the creation of a spring-like bond that makes a whole jet of quarks fly off when one tries to pull a quark out of a proton.
