The reinforcement learning process allows for systems to continuously improve by playing against other systems in a specific game construct that are slightly better than itself. Although there have been successful AI models such as Go and AlphaGo AlphaZero, the potential for reinforcement learning to achieve greater levels of intelligence still holds promise.
