The US needs to invest in journalism and empower the government's citizen-oriented departments, such as the Department of Education, to ensure media and digital literacy among the general public, and also regulate social media and campaign finance. The lack of political will and governmental cooperation could lead to the failure of true news and fact-checking in America, which will have an adverse effect on its global superpower standing.
