Palmetto State Bank board member and Russell's cousin, Norris Lafitte, testified as the first witness in court in the double murder investigation case. Norris asked Russell for a report on Ellick's debt to the bank and suspected that Ellick owed them a lot of money and wasn't working to pay it back.
