In 1986, Salt Lake police formed a task force to capture a serial killer whose modus operandi felt similar to that of Ted Bundy. They looked for a Smith & Wesson or Ruger .38 or .357 caliber handgun, and sent out a letter to police agencies in states across the West, expressing their interest in any unsolved homicides involving female victims.
