Schultes experienced the Baille di Muñeco, a three-day dance of the Yukuna people to honor forest spirits and express gratitude to nature, where they rest every 20 minutes to an hour for snorting tobacco and chewing coca. While Schultes was not the discoverer of Chiribiquete, he was regarded as one of the discoverers of Ayahuasca for being led to the ceremony by the indigenous people.
