The maintenance issues with creating a fusion reactor are challenging, and compared to solar and wind energy, they are not competitive. The use of deuterium and tritium, as well as other types of fusion, may be necessary to create fusion on Earth, but we already have a fusion reactor in the sun that requires no maintenance.
