The pandemic acted as an aggravating factor but it wasn't the main cause of the semiconductor shortage as the long term digital growth has contributed to it. The industry is making plans to increase capacity investment and initiatives such as the United States Chips Act and European Chips Act are aiming to install manufacturing within US and European geographies.
