After a series of ambush attacks between the tribes and settlers, the leader of the Penacook Confederacy, known as King Philip, fled with his family to the Canadian border of New Hampshire. In his absence, Chief Kingamangus led an attack in Dover resulting in the death of a quarter of the colonists.
