The Out of the Inkwell series by Fleischer Brothers was the first major animation series combining live-action footage with animated characters and bringing them to life off the page to interact with the real world. The launch of Steamboat Willie by Walt Disney four years later reportedly tried to discredit Fleischer Brothers' previous sound videos to claim credit as first to use the techniques.
