The British Union of Fascists (BUF), founded by Oswald Mosley, targeted areas of declining industry in Lancashire and Yorkshire to recruit members. They primarily recruited from the ranks of unemployed workers and relied on financial support from middle-class businessmen and wealthy snobs, but many were not willing to take to the streets.
